1. Sodium lauryl sulphate:

Can cause skin irritation, canker sores, disruptions of skin’s natural oil balance and eye damage. Contributes to acne

2. Butylated Hydroxyanisole (BHA):

The US National Toxicology Program classifies (BHA) as “reasonably anticipated to be a human carcinogen.”

3. Parabens:

According to the European Commission’s Scientific Committee on Consumer Products, parabens like propyl and butyl paraben and, isopropyl and isobutyl parabens, may disrupt the endocrine system and cause reproductive and developmental disorders.

4. Polyethylene/PEGs

These synthetic chemicals are frequently contaminated with 1,4-dioxane, which the U.S. government considers a probable human carcinogen and which readily penetrates the skin. Polyethylene has been noted as a skin irritant and should never be used on broken skin.

5. Retinyl palmitate, retinyl acetate, retinoic acid and retinol:

Become carcinogenic in sunlight. may damage DNA and speed the growth of skin tumors when used on your skin

6. Fragrances:

Companies are not required to list on product labels any of the chemicals in their fragrance mixture. Fragrances can contain hormone disruptors and are among the top 5 allergens in the world.

7. Diethanolamine (DEA) & Triethanolamine (TEA):

These are highly acidic synthetic emulsifiers and/or foaming agents. They can cause allergic reactions, eye irritation, and dry out the skin. It appears on labels under other names as well such as – cocamide DEA or MES and Lauramide DEA

8. Propylene Glycol:

It is an odolourless and tasteless substance used to maintain moisture is cosmetics. However it can cause allergic reactions. Other names it goes by include 1,2-dihydroxypropane, 1,2-propanediol, methyl glycol, and trimethyl glycol.

9. Dimethicone

This ingredient blocks pores from drawing moisture from the air and releasing toxins, and often leads to acne and irritation.

10. Triclosan

Is potentially contaminated with chloroform and dioxins, and has links to endocrine disruption, organ toxicity, allergic reaction, skin, eye, and lung irritation, and bioaccumulation.

11. Phenoxyethanol:
A Synthetic preservative that can cause skin reactions in some individuals. National Institute for Research and Security) published a toxicological study about phenoxyethanol. It indicates that this substance is easily absorbed by the skin and metabolized to phenoxyacetic acid, which can lead to neurotoxic effects and neurological disorders.

12. Hyaluronic Acid :

Hyaluronic Acid will actually dehydrate your skin over time. Not only that, but Hyaluronic Acid has been shown to promote the build-up of keratin cells. These are the cells responsible for the flakiness you see on sun-damaged skin.

13. Sodium Benzoate :

The problem with this additive isn’t the ingredient itself, but rather what it does when combined with certain other ingredients, specifically ascorbic acid, or vitamin C.

14. Benzyl Alcohol:

Can affect the immune system, gradually causing your skin to react.
